ShipEngine Tracking
How purchase order tracking works after an order ships.
ShipEngine tracking keeps purchase order package status up to date after an order ships.
When Tracking Starts
Tracking starts when a purchase order is marked Shipped.
When you use the Shipped action, enter:
- the tracking number
- the shipping method
- the shipping cost, when available
Tempr saves those shipping details and asks ShipEngine to begin tracking the package.
Tracking only starts when a tracking number is entered. If an order is marked shipped without a tracking number, the order can still be shipped, but ShipEngine has no package to follow.
Supported Shipping Methods
Common carrier names are normalized automatically, including:
- UPS
- FedEx
- USPS
- DHL
If the carrier is not in the standard list, choose the closest available option or use Other when the exact carrier is unknown.
Tracking Updates
After tracking starts, ShipEngine sends Tempr updates as the carrier scans and moves the package.
Updates may include:
- current tracking status
- detailed status text
- carrier tracking URL
- estimated delivery date
- actual delivery date
- latest scan event time
Carrier scans are not always instant. A newly shipped order may take time to show movement, especially if the carrier has not scanned the package yet.
Multiple Packages
If a purchase order has more than one tracking number, enter the numbers separated by commas, spaces, or line breaks.
Example:
1Z999AA10123456784, 9400111298370264401222
Tempr starts tracking each package separately.
If Tracking Looks Wrong
Check these items first:
- The tracking number is complete.
- The selected shipping method matches the carrier.
- The order is actually in the
Shippedstate. - The carrier has had time to scan the package.
If the tracking number or carrier was entered incorrectly, update the purchase order shipping details and ask an admin to confirm ShipEngine tracking was started for the corrected package.
